This is a question that has been asked for a long time and its relevance is returning this year with the constant sequels/spin-offs announced/released this year. There are some good movies that have the potential to get a sequel such as Pixar’s Wall-E and Disney’s Big hero 6. There are also some movies that have been confirmed to get a sequel such as The Incredible, The Wild Robot, and etc. There’s also movies that have been announced such as The Bad Guys 2, Shrek 5, and etc. There have been so many movies with announced sequels and some of them such as Deadpool and Wolverine and Inside Out 2 have been amazing, with Inside Out 2 being the top animated film of all time, beating the live action Lion King.
While this was an amazing feat, there is still room for failure. For example, Moana 2 is not being rated as a great movie, despite its growing success. And people are already hating on the live action Mufasa movie, which is based on The Lion King and isn’t even out yet.

So are sequels ruining good movies? Yes, but at the same time, no. Moana 2 was never needed to continue Moana, which is partially the reason why it isn’t as amazing as the first film, While Inside Out 2 was not only hinted at, but it was needed to continue Riley’s story.
So in conclusion, Sequels would only ruin a good movie if they are unnecessary, terrible, and overall unwatchable. A movie could have an unnecessary sequel, if the sequel adds on to the story, and is amazing to watch, such as what Puss in Boots: The Last Wish did. It not only adds more character to the already existing character but it is also a pleasant movie to watch.
