Valentine’s Day is a holiday that is celebrated on February 14th every year. It’s a day to express love and affection towards your significant other. The holiday has its origins in ancient Roman times when a festival called Lupercalia was celebrated in the middle of February. The festival honored the Roman god of fertility, Lupercus, and was a part of the spring season.

Over time, the holiday evolved and became associated with Saint Valentine. David Kithcart says that “One legend states that Saint Valentine was a priest who was imprisoned and executed for secretly marrying couples in ancient Rome during a time when marriage was banned.”
